Belinda Hurmence is a former assistant fiction editor of Mademoiselle Magazine and editor for Flair Magazine.

Slavery Time
Her first novel, Tough Tiffany, was an ALA Notable. Awards for her nine subsequent titles have included Parents' Choice, NCTE Teachers' Choice, School Library Journal Best Book, the Golden Kite Award, and Bank Street Best Books of the Year list. Her many books include: Before Freedom, When I Just Can Remember: Twenty-Seven Oral Histories of Former South Carolina Slaves, My Folks Don't Want Me to Talk About Slavery and Slavery Time When I Was Chillun. She lives in Raleigh.
